In the Widths with PBSSS Non-Swimmers Levels 1 and 2 Level 1 Children at this level have no previous experience of swimming the main aims of this level is to: Moving freely in the water. Submerging and opening their eyes. Floating and using arms and legs to achieve a simple form of travelling through the water. When they are able to move 5m freely without support they are ready to move on. Beginner Levels 3 and 4 The emphasis is to build confidence enabling the young swimmer to feel completely at home in the water. They will begin to: Develop control in the water Breathing Different ways of using their limbs to propel themselves along. Improver 1 Levels 5 and 6 The young swimmer is now ready to focus on the basic elements of propulsion, using the main swimming strokes. An emphasis is on: Streamlining Breathing control Sculling Treading water Swimming underwater At the end of each level the children are assessed and will only move onto the next level when they have met the correct standard. The teacher may also use their discretion when appropriate.
